3-D Bjork video screens 3/12/08

Meet the Filmmakers
Friday, March 14, 7pm
Kaufmann Auditorium, American Museum of Natural History

Björk's new 3D music video will soon premiere in New York and Los Angeles. The New York Stereoscopic Society presents an opportunity to meet the creative team behind this remarkable piece. Live action and rendered graphics are combined in an 8 minute visual and musical narrative. Directors Sean Hellfritsch and Isaiah Saxon of Encyclopedia Pictura and Producer Mark De Pace of Ghost Robot will show the video and a 3D slide show documenting the production of the props, sets and costumes as well as live shooting. Our venue is particularly appropriate, as the 3D space created in the video is inspired by the forced perspective of the Museum's dioramas.

History of the Pratt-Pullman Yard

The Pratt Engineering/Pullman Company property is an historic transportation and industrial complex, dating back to the country's industrialization in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Pratt Engineering Company purchased this property adjacent to the rail line in 1900 in what was once the City of Kirkwood. The Pratt company did defense contracting work during World War I and in the 1920s the entire facility was purchased by the Pullman Passenger Rail Car Company and converted to use for everything from regular car maintenance to entire rebuilds and refitting of large locomotives. This facility served the entire southeast and until The Pullman Company lost an anti-trust case in the late 1940s, Pullman Inc. by federal court order, sold on June 30th The Pullman Co., the sleeping car division, to 59 railroads. The capitol stock of the company was now owned by these railroads. There was no further connection or affiliation with Pullman Incorporated or the Pullman-Standard Manufacturing Co. Sale price to the railroads was $40 million. Many of the industrial buildings, characterized by brick clad and riveted iron skeleton construction built by Pratt Engineering and the brick clad reinforced concrete buildings built by the Pullman Company remain on the site. Soon after the anti-trust loss, Pullman drastically scaled back operations and in 1950 sold the Atlanta yard to Georgia Power where it was used to service trackless trolleys for their mass transit operations. In 1990 the Georgia Building Authority bought the property and for a time in the mid 1990s, the state ran a supper train ride out to Stone Mountain called the New Georgia Railroad whose passenger terminal was located near the GSU campus in a small building now used by Atlanta Police Department which just happens to hold the original Atlantic & Western zero mile marker which founded Atlanta. Since the demise of the NGR the property had sat idle for some time before re-selling 1.85 acres to Georgia Power to build a power sub-station that would service the surrounding communities. They project is currently in production, they have torn down 2 buildings but will not be allowed to tear down anymore. Some of the buildings are on the Atlanta Preservation Society watch list of endangered historic structures.

Pullman Yard art show - Call For Artists

I am putting together an art show on April 11th 2008 that will showcase art work created by the inspiration and infiltration of the Pratt-Pullman abandoned train yard at 225 Rogers St. in historic Kirkwood. The exhibition will feature works by local photographers who were brave enough to cross the rusted chain-link fences and razor wire to capture the beautiful decay of these amazing and historic buildings. My studio, Studio Outpost at 206 Rogers, will host the exhibition, that's right across the street! In addition to seeing the artwork there will be information provided that gives you some detailed history and future plans for the area. I am inviting the community in to begin the discussion of what can be done with this beautiful and historic plot of land that will help the area grow more.

At this moment there aren't any size or hanging restrictions, so I say go nuts! We have a pretty large space and we're really looking to open it up even more and let people see and experience the art in all the different environments in the studio. The more artists the better! I'd also like to talk to you about bringing, in addition to the work you want to hang, a few small postcard (4x6) prints for a collaborative wall installation piece that will include works from every artist involved. I'm hoping to have enough photos to make it a floor to ceiling piece.

So, that's it for now. If you are still interested just try and get everything together and to me no later than April 9th, I will be hanging work all day then. I am really excited about this show and I think it could turn out to be something that is just the beginning of a change movement.

Thank you,
Bobb Lovett

Can I get on this road and just "go"?

I want to get away, from everything, right now.

Working on the Pullman Yard art show

1901, originally uploaded by Double B Photography.

I've been spending the morning digging through the history and time lines of this amazing place that was built in 1901. So far I've written my call for artist, a one page on the history, and picked out a few prints I'd like to see in the show. This is becoming a pretty big undertaking for me to do by myself but it is going to be awesome. I'm excited about it.

This is MY Atlanta - OCTANE SHOW

That's right, the double B's first ever solo art show. It's going to be at Octane coffee bar on Marietta St. down over on the west side of town. In this show I want to showcase the way I see Atlanta. There are lots of places that we drive by everyday that are rich in history and culture but we pass them with a blind eye. There are so many little niche areas of my favorite city that are rarely ever explored. In this series I plan to expose some of these spots to allow the viewer to feel like they are looking at photographs of some other city, when what they are seeing is right in their backyards. This is MY Atlanta is a photography show by the works of Bobb Lovett.

Screen Capture from my Rapid I Movement film festival movie

Jack Wallis and I shot a short film for the Rapid I Movement festival hosted by Image. It was a crazy 50 hours making this film but we made it through, and with some decent looking stuff. The story was super weak, we say due to having to have it written in 4 hours, but the look was amazing. This film didn't have a title, nor will it prob see the light of day, but it makes for good stuff for the reel.
